What types of home care services are available?
Is it right for my family member?
Are caregivers trained, experienced, and background-checked?
There are important questions you need answered when exploring home care options. With decades of expertise in aging care, our care experts have the information you need to make the best choice for someone you love. The following are some of the questions we hear most often, along with their corresponding answers. Click on a question to find more information on that topic.
What if my caregiver is sick and cannot make it to my house?
If your caregiver calls in sick, we will call you immediately to see if you would like a replacement caregiver. If so, we will make every effort to send your replacement as quickly as possible.
Are your services available in nursing homes or assisted living facilities?
Yes. JFS Care serves clients who reside in senior living communities, assisted living centers, and long-term care facilities. We can also provide bedside companionship during hospital stays.
Can I reach someone at your agency after hours, and how should I do so?
The JFS Care office is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. If you require emergency assistance after hours, a live operator will answer your call and connect you with our on-call home care manager.
Who can receive in-home care?
In-home care is versatile and available to anyone who needs a helping hand in order to perform activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation to and from appointments, shopping, etc. – and to those who simply need some companionship at home.
What are the advantages of home care?
Home care services allow older adults and disabled individuals to receive the care and attention they need in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes, as opposed to moving into an assisted living or nursing home facility. Receiving care in the home also allows individuals to rest and heal in comfort following a surgical procedure or hospital stay. At JFS Care, we design our in-home care plans with an eye toward helping our clients remain engaged and active.
What makes JFS Care different from other in-home care companies?
With decades of experience, JFS Care has developed a strong reputation for reliability and providing the highest quality care. We customize our services for each client and treat each person we care for like a member of our own family. By embracing new technologies, we are able to help our clients increase their personal safety and improve their wellness. We are your community resource for finding answers to all of your aging care questions. To learn more about how we differ from other in-home care providers, visit our Why Choose Us page.
What kind of training do your caregivers receive?
JFS Care requires two years of prior caregiving experience, and each new personal care assistant must participate in training to meet requirements for new caregivers in the State of California. After that, all caregivers are required to complete an additional five hours of training per year. We actively encourage our caregivers to pursue as much training as they can by compensating them for approved additional training hours. We provide training through Nevvon, a leading online healthcare education company, and also offer in-person and virtual training throughout each calendar year. These training measures ensure that our care team is fully equipped to meet a wide range of needs and to provide the highest quality care.
How are your caregivers screened?
Our caregivers are fingerprinted for screening through the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. We also complete a criminal background check and driving record report for each caregiver via a national security firm. Additionally, we perform random drug testing and diligently verify all references for new applicants. All applicants must undergo a personality evaluation and in-person interview by our HR coordinator. If hired, all caregivers are required to participate in our training protocols with our care managers and HR coordinator.
Are your caregivers insured and bonded?
Yes. All of our personal care assistants and office employees are fully insured and bonded for your safety, protection, and peace of mind.
Is your agency licensed?
Yes. JFS Care is a California Licensed Home Care Agency with the Home Care Services Bureau. Our license number is 194700007.
Are your home care services covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or insurance?
No. Because our services are non-medical in nature, they are not covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or health insurance. If you have long-term care insurance, we can help you determine if your policy will cover any of our services.
What are my payment options for home care services?
We require that an active credit card is kept on file. You can choose to have us auto-charge your card or we can contact you for approval. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. Payments by check or money order are also acceptable.
Do you require a minimum of hours and days a week in order to provide care?
We require a minimum of 6 hours for home care and 4 hours for housekeeping services. We make every effort to accommodate your service needs.
How much do home care services cost?
The price of our services is determined based upon your unique needs. Once we are able to assess your care needs by phone or in person, we can provide you with pricing information.
How quickly can I arrange for service?
We can arrange service within 24 hours in urgent situations, but it is preferable to first complete an in-person home assessment. We work with you to design a unique care plan and perform a safety inspection of the home environment so that we can make recommendations for making the home safer.
What types of in-home care for the elderly do you provide?
JFS Care offers a wide range of traditional non-medical home care services, such as assistance with bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, using the bathroom, housekeeping, meal planning and preparation, companionship, shopping, and transportation. We also partner with Philips Lifeline to provide home care technology that increases personal safety and wellness.
